In the inaugural week of the Showtime Flag Football season, the Raptors overcame initial setbacks to clinch a win against the Panthers. Team member Eric Divine candidly discussed both personal challenges and the team’s performance in a post-match interview with Sports247.
Reflecting on her individual performance, Divine admitted, “I’d say the game was okay. I didn’t have my best moments out there—I made some mistakes and missed a few opportunities—but I still got paid for the jobs I did. Overall, it was just an okay day for me.”

Addressing the team’s dynamics, she acknowledged some early miscommunications but remained optimistic about future games. “Today, there were some misunderstandings on the field. A few of us forgot key plays, which cost us in the early stages. But we’re learning and we’re coming back stronger. I believe in our improvement—next game, we’re going to communicate better, play harder, and win by a clear margin. We’re determined to get back on track very soon.”
Divine emphasized the importance of mental and physical preparation, highlighting her reliance on faith and rigorous training. “Before the game, I focused on prayer because I attended church and came from there to play. I believe that praying, combined with hard work and back-to-back training, sets the foundation for our performance. Thank God, it all came together.”
When faced with intense moments during the match, she maintained composure by reminding herself to stay calm and trust in her abilities. “In those critical moments, my mind was constantly saying, ‘Oh Lord, help me do better.’ I reminded myself to stay calm and not let the pressure get to me—just breathe in, breathe out, and trust that things will turn around.”
Despite the Panthers taking an early lead, Divine highlighted the Raptors’ resilience and focus. “The other team managed to score first, and it seemed like we were struggling to catch up. But we didn’t focus on them. Our goal was always to win. Even though we gave up some points early on, we regrouped and pushed forward. In the end, it’s not how you start the game—it’s how you finish, and that’s what matters.”
With this victory, the Raptors aim to build on their performance, addressing early-game issues and enhancing team cohesion as the season progresses.
