Former Nepa FC of Lagos player Lateef Seriki has thrown his full weight behind the management and players of Buruj Sports Academy as they intensify their preparation for their upcoming trip to the United Kingdom.
Speaking ahead of the team’s 2-2 draw in a friendly game against Eko Future Stars U-17 side inside the Agege Stadium on Wednesday morning, the India-based former soccer-star expressed delight at what he had been hearing and which he is now witnessing about the Ikorodu-based academy and promised that through his pet-project called Yaalatif Sports Foundation, he will continue to do everything he can to help the young players realise their dreams of playing the beautiful game at the highest level.
In the game proper, Adeleke Otasanya opened the scores in the 3rd minute with a well-taken goal before the Eko Boys restored parity in the 53rd minute.
Noah Salaudeen converted the penalty awarded his side in the 68th minute before the Lagos State junior team who had earlier missed a penalty capitalised on a mix-up in the defence line to make it 2-2.
And in the final minute of the game, Noah Salaudeen, captain of the side missed what could have been the winner after his goalbound shot was headed off the line by an unrushing defender.
Seriki who also played in the Indian League before turning to a coach and now sports promoter, presented a set of jerseys and balls to the management and players, adding that he will do more to back the academy all the way.
He also charged the youngsters to take their training very seriously, adding that attitude matters a lot for any young player who is determined to go far in the game.
Meanwhile, the next friendly game for the boys will be against Vinogano FC on Saturday at Strong Tower pitch, Ikorodu, Lagos in the afternoon.
