Napoli striker Victor Osimhen took to Instagram to say that winning the 2021/22 Serie A Best Young Player of the Year award is a “big milestone” for him.
Despite missing parts of the season due to injury, Osimhen saw off competition from Juventus’ striker Dusan Vlahovic to win the award. The 23-year-old was named the league’s U-23 MVP thanks to his 14 goals and five assists which helped Napoli finish third.
In an Instagram post, Osimhen expressed gratitude to his family, fans, and teammates for helping him in overcoming adversity. He wrote:
“For me this is a big milestone. Having gone through a lot of tough times, from multiple injuries and all, I still stood my ground against all odds but I won’t be able to do these things without the support of my family, friends, fans and of course my teammates and the coaches.
“I sincerely appreciate you all. This one is also for the people who want to see me fail, you all motivate me to put a lot of you all in shame. Ciao and see you next season. God is the greatest. We move.”
Osimhen has been linked with a summer transfer away from Italy. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle are rumored to be interested in signing the Nigerian.
