Leon Balogun has joined Queens Park Rangers as a free agent, reports Sports247.
The Nigerian international has penned a one-year deal with the English Championship club following his departure from Glasgow Rangers at the end of last season.
Balogun is familiar with QPR’s manager Michael Beale. Beale served as Rangers’ assistant coach between 2018-2021.
Balogun stated that Beale was a major factor in his decision to join QPR. Speaking at his presentation, the 34-year-old said:
“It is a big relief to know I can get back to action and I am looking forward to it. We have been speaking for some weeks so I am happy we got it done.
“The manager is one of the main factors for me. When he left Rangers I messaged him and said in terms of a football brain he is one of the best I have worked with.”
“He [Beale] is obsessed with football and what I always admire about him is the way he treated the players and the way he got ideas into your mind.
“I am more than delighted to work with him again and to be part of this project here, and hopefully leave a great mark.”
Balogun joined Rangers in 2020 and made over 60 appearances for the Scottish giants. He won one Scottish Premiership title and one Scottish Cup in his two years at Ibrox.
The center-half has previous experience in England, having played in the Premier League for Brighton and Hove Albion before his short stint with Wigan Athletic in the Championship in 2020.
