The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, Aisha Falode, has declared the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament the only credible, sustainable and impactful preseason tournament for women in Nigeria at the moment Sports247 reports.
Aisha Falode, who is also a member of the LOC of the competition, speaking at the draws ceremony on Wednesday 7th September 2022, praised the competition put together by the First Lady of Edo State, Betsy Obaseki, which is only in the 2nd edition after certain female players moved up in their career after participating in the first edition for their clubs.
“It has become the only credible, sustainable, impactful, preseason football tournament for women that we have in Nigeria,” Aisha said.
She also went further to reveal the theme and aim of the competition for this year which is said to be “say NO to drug abuse”.
“Football is beyond just kicking a ball around the field, but rather having a message and social impact tied to it. This tournament, the message is ‘say no to drugs and this is a major problem we have with a lot of our youths,” Aisha said.
The competition which started today is set to last for ten days with thirteen teams playing for a chance to win the grand prize of five million naira, while three million naira goes to the second place and 1.5 million naira for the third-placed team as the other teams get consolation prizes.
