Nigeria female beach volleyball team has booked a place in the knockout stages of the Carmtel International Championships in Yaoundé.
The female team beat Congo 28-14, Cameroon 28-11 and Central Africa 28-10 in the group stages.
Meanwhile, the male team defeated Chad 23-21, 21-11 at the championships.
Despite the flattering outcome of the encounters, the head coach of the Beach Volleyball teams, Francis Imoudu insisted his players respected their opponents.
He said, “We are very satisfied with the result as the important thing was to win. It was not easy as our opponent were very combative and aggressive.”
He said, “We started well though in the second set of the men’s game we found it hard playing against the wind. Our opponent also worked hard and we never underestimated them. The most important thing is that the female team is through to the next stage.
He said, “The female matches is a single set of 28 points in the preliminary stages and in the knockout stages it will be best of three sets”.
