As Nigeria U17 Women’s team, The Flamingos prepare to take Ethiopia in the second leg of the final qualifying match for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup slated for October, some members of the team have tagged the game as the biggest of their lives.
While speaking to the media ahead of the team’s important game, Comfort Folorunsho reiterated that the team is fully prepared and will do everything to secure the ticket to the biennial football showpiece.
“We believe we are going to win because there are a lot of things at stake and we are not even ready to risk it so we are fully ready to qualify for the world cup and ready for the 100%.”
Striker, Opeyemi Ajakaiye who is Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in the qualifying campaign with six goals stated that the weather in Addis Ababa was not favorable for them in the first leg and she believes they are going to teach the Ethiopian good football in Abuja.
“Over there it was a little bit difficult, due to the weather conditions over there but for here we are in Nigeria, we are going to play good football.”
Goalkeeper Jessica Chiakmso also commented on the negative Ethiopia weather stating that it affected their performance in the first leg.
“We are not used to their environment over there but the fact we were able to score in Addis Ababa shows what we can do here is our land. So, expect more from us
Finally, the captain of the team Alvine Dah-Zossu in her own words believes playing at home on Saturday is going to be a great advantage for the team and they will have no excuse to win the match.
“Be rest assured that it is our home match, we’ll not have any excuse. So, we’ll do what we usually do, which is to score goals. Well, we have been training as we usually do but we have upped our game because we know the Ethiopian team is a good side and we are the better side, so we have been training and preparing so far,” she concluded.
Nigeria won the first leg by a goal in Addis Ababa two weeks ago and will only need a draw in the game on Saturday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja to seal their spot for the biennial football showpiece billed for India.
