The Minister For Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has congratulated the Nigeria U17 Women’s team, The Flamingos on their latest feat of securing qualification to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup slated for India.
Flamingos held their Ethiopia counterparts to a barren draw in the reverse fixture of the final qualifying match at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday to secure a 1-0 aggregate win.
Speaking after the game, Sunday Dare who witnessed the match from the stands congratulated the players and the coaching staff for a job well done and promised that all necessary efforts will be put in place towards the team’s preparation for the tournament in India.
“I’m immensely proud of the fight you all put in today. Even though it was a tough game, you all did not fail to step up to the occasion. The grit, the heart, the fight was high up there”.
“I congratulate the entire technical crew and squad for picking up the World Cup against all odds. I believe that all hands will be put on deck to help the team prepare adequately for the finals itself”, He commented.
The Flamingos saw competition from DR Congo by pummelling them 8 nil, defeated Egypt 6-0 on aggregate before pipping Ethiopia by a goal on aggregate to pick the world cup slot
