The second tier of Nigerian football, the Nigeria National League, NNL is entering the dying embers with just three league games to go to decide the top 4 teams that would gain promotion into the top flight but not many players of these clubs can boast consistency in matches played.
Ikorodu City’s skipper and Centre-back, Sebastine Godwin, very calm on the ball, is one of, if not the only player to have played all league games this 2022 season for his club which tells about the consistency of the lad who started playing football in ‘set’ on the streets.
“I started playing set and eventually had to join a team, like a boys club and the rest is history as I was playing as a defensive midfielder then before playing as a defender alongside,” Sebastine told Sports247.
Sebastine has played all nineteen (19) of Ikorodu City’s NNL games this season and 22 of the 23 games in all competitions this season scoring one and assisting one as well, making him a pivotal member of coach Abiodun Obafemi’s team.
“I feel great because it’s a sign of improvement for me. It shows I’ve been working a lot to be able to play every game and I’m happy for the opportunity to have faced every team in the league so far,” Sebastine said.
“In the next five years, I see myself playing for the biggest club in Nigeria or a big club in Europe and I’m promising myself to work towards that,” he added.
Sebastine models his game around the Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva who he says he has followed his career all the way to Chelsea.
