Ikorodu City FC of Lagos youngster, Ganiyu Adio is still reflecting on last weekend’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Akwa United of Uyo, but admitted he was not happy that he did feature in the match.
Adio acknowledged that he could not settle down quickly to life in the top-flight Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) after starring for many years in the lower division.
The starry-eyed lad, who was captain of Beyond Limits Football Acaddmy until he joined Ikorodu City on loan this summer, confessed that life in the NPFL is tougher than what he experienced in the lower cadre Nigerian National League (NNL).
He, however, disclosed in a chat with sports247.ng that he is working hard in order to cement a regular place in The Oga Boys’ squad and noted that last Sunday’s victory will boost his confidence.
“It means a lot to me and the team,” Adio stated. “It’s a good thing, because it showed how determination can bring good results.
“It shows that when you have desire, and you are chasing something good, you have to chase it to the end. Definitely, it will come to you.
“That’s what I saw in this victory, and I used it to encourage myself personally. For me, it means that I will also eventually start playing regularly in the team.”
Adio went on to appeal for patience from his teeming fans, who he believes always want to see him play, and ended with an assurance that he will take his big opportunity when it eventually comes.
“At first, it was very difficult for me in the team. Now, I’m adapting and trying my best to get into the system.
“I want my fans to be patient. You guys should please just have patience with me.
“I’m watching myself, waiting for my chance. And, when the chance finally comes, I won’t let you guys down,” Adio assured.
