The Ikeja Divisional League, one of the most influential and notable grassroots league in Lagos and Nigeria has continued to break bounds and establish new frontiers even as it appoints the President of YG Football Club and YG football Agency, Yusuf Garba as its patron.
Yusuf Garba in an interview with Sports247 expressed his gratitude to the league body for the appointment and also stated his commitment to the development of the league. “I thank the management, the LOC, and the Chairman of the league for this appointment, it’s a welcome development. I’ll try my best as always, try to be supportive to the division and try to make it more credible for everyone to see,” the new patron said.
“The age gap and development of grassroots football is part of my priority. I normally concentrate on the youths to move them from the streets, keep them busy and let them have something doing in order to avoid them getting involved in street and criminal activities in the society,” Mr. Yusuf explained as the reason behind his passion for grassroots development.
Yusuf Garba also pointed that it would be a welcome idea for the Ikeja division to organise the women’s version of the league as it will also help keep the ladies busy and take them off the streets too.
He then advised the youths to keep busy, work hard and wait for their time to be successful.
“They should focus on their dreams. If you choose to be a footballer, you must work hard, be determined and patient and when your time comes, you take it,” he concluded.
