President of Ikeja-Alausa Rotary Club, Prince Adeyemi Aseperi has stated that the Ikeja-Alausa based Rotary club is targeting Sports to grow its Membership with 1.2 million passionate individuals in 35,000+ clubs worldwide.
The club, expected to be charted soon is starting with 32 members and the year target is to grow the membership to about 120 percent as the President hoping that by the end of the current Rotary year, the membership of the new club would have risen to 100+.
He said in the process, there are plans to attract young members into the club, using sports. “Basically, those of us that are young are trying to reach out to our friends to tell them the advantages of membership true sports activity.”
Beyond physical well-being, sport can play an important role in a safer, more prosperous, and more peaceful society, through its educational values and worldwide network.
Although the beneficial effects of sport for development are still not exploited to their full extent, sport can help bridge cultural and ethnic divides, create jobs and businesses, promote tolerance and non-discrimination, reinforce social integration, and advocate healthy lifestyles. Through sports development, we can achieve wider human development goals.
