Ihuyase FC defeated Winners Fc to Cart away the maiden edition of the Agbor Coaches and Directors Unity Cup 2022 in an epic finals watched by over 1000 fans at the Agbor Township Stadium.
Winner FC took the lead 15 minutes after the interval after both sides played out 0-0 in the first 45 minutes. Ihuyase fought back to draw level in the 75th minute to set up a nervy last 15 minutes of the encounter. The match drew a capacity crowd with both sides having a handful of supporters cheering for victory but the stalemate continued untill the end of regulation time.
Ihuyase prevailed in the ensuring penalty shootout winning 4-3 to become the first team to win the trophy and smiled home with the giant trophy, gold medals and cash prize of #70,000. Winners FC Settled for the second prize and #50,000, the second time they are runners up in under a month. Winners FC Lost the Chivex Divine Tournament played in August when they lost 1-0 to Rainbow FC. Golden Boys FC received the bronze medal and a cash award of #30,000.
Awards were also given to the Best Goalkeeper and top Scorer of the tournament.
” I want to say a very big thank you to the Organizing committee, Coaches and Directors in our union… They all did very well to the success of this competition” Coach Martins Adodo, Chairman of the Agbor Coaches and Directors Union stated after the tournament.
Coach Matthew who is the vice Chairman of the Union and Coach of Rainbow FC also thanked all the teams who participated, coaches and officials that made the tornament a success ” I am so happy to see that our Dream of taking Agbor football to greater heights is coming to reality, kudos to all” he said
The chairman of the Organizing committee and Treasurer of the Union, Mr George Nkem was also elated to see that the tournament came to a successful climax under his watched and commended all the teams urging them to remain united and committed for more in the future.
Director of KG Sports Academy Dr Ken Gadaffi also congratulated the organizers and the winners for their efforts and urged the Union to keep up the trend by ensuring the tournament continues as an annual event unlike past tournaments in Agbor.
” Its not the first time to see this type of tournament in Agbor, so i hope the organizers and the Coaches Union will remain united to keep the trend going and ensuring continuity. this tournament should not be a one off tournament, rather it will be great to see that the title is brought back next year for defense and make it annual event.” Dr Ken who is also the Media consultant of the Delta North Football Coaches Council enthused
