In a thrilling showdown at the Ama-Abuo Central School in Ovungwu, Abia State, Ihenaeriala Village emerged as the champions of the inaugural Glory Ogbonna men’s football competition.
The tournament, organized by the Besiktas defender to give back to society and promote the beautiful game of football, witnessed intense competition among local teams in the Isialangwa South local government area.

The grand finale saw Ihenaeriala Village securing victory over Amaede Village in a penalty shootout, triumphing 7-6 after a goalless draw in regular time.
Glory Ogbonna, the convener of the competition, expressed her admiration for the players during the final event, commending their outstanding display.
Addressing the players, Glory Ogbonna said, “I want to thank you all for making the tournament beautiful. I’m impressed with what I saw here today; indeed, talents abound in Isialangwa South local government area.
This is the first of many to come, and in no time, we will have the next big star in the Super Falcons and Super Eagles.”
The victorious Ihenaeriala Village, also the hometown of Besiktas defender Ogbonna, claimed the championship prize of Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira.
Amaede Village, the second-placed team, received one hundred and fifty thousand Naira, while the third-placed team earned One hundred thousand Naira.
Additionally, special awards were presented during the ceremony.
Umuapu 11 received the Fair Play Award, and Okpungwo secured the Highest Goal Scorer Award.
Each of these accolades came with a cash prize of Ten thousand Naira, generously provided by Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna.
The inaugural Glory Ogbonna men’s football tournament not only showcased local football talent but also fostered community spirit and goodwill, setting the stage for future editions to continue promoting sports and camaraderie in Abia State.
