Iheanacho, 27, joined Leicester from Manchester City in 2017, scoring 71 goals and providing 42 assists in 218 appearances for the Foxes.
Despite his contributions, Iheanacho’s final season at Leicester was challenging. The Nigerian striker had only ten starts under Enzo Maresca in the EFL Championship, with his last start coming against West Bromwich Albion in December. Reflecting on his mixed emotions, Iheanacho said,
“I played the first half of the season but didn’t really get a chance in the second part. But most importantly, as a team, we won the trophy. We were a good group and did it for all of us and the football club. It’s a nice football club and a good family. It was great to end with a smile and a trophy.”
Iheanacho’s best period at Leicester was under Brendan Rodgers during the 2020/2021 season, where he netted 19 goals and provided seven assists in 39 games across all competitions. His efforts helped Leicester lift the Emirates FA Cup and the Community Shield.
Now, Iheanacho embarks on a new chapter with Sevilla, joining on a free transfer. He has signed a two-year deal with the seven-time UEFA Europa League winners, with an option to extend for a further year.
As he transitions to La Liga, Iheanacho aims to bring his goal-scoring prowess and experience to his new team, contributing to Sevilla’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe.
