Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho becomes the fourth Nigerian to win the Premier League Player of the Month award after being named the winner for the month of March.
The 24-year-old scored five goals in three league appearances for the Foxes last month, including his first Premier League hat-trick against Sheffield United.
Iheanacho joins Jay-Jay Okocha, Peter Odemwingie, and Odion Ighalo as the fourth Nigerian to win the monthly prize.
“I’m so pleased and honored to win this award. It’s great to be recognized, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team-mates and the manager,” Iheanacho said on receiving the accolade.
“I’m really enjoying playing at the minute and hopefully I can push on and help the team to finish as high as possible this season.”
The Nigeria international won the award ahead of Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, West Ham’s Jesse Lingard, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw and Brighton’s Leandro Trossard.
