Leicester City attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho will be thanking his stars that he has not been named in an impending clear out of redundant players at the club, as his name has not been included in the list for the axe.
Iheanacho has largely found the going tough at King Power Stadium, but sports247.ng learnt that recent spirited efforts from the ex-Manchester City whiz-kid have seen him get some camoe roles with The Foxes.
Though Iheanacho was found wanting in recent matches for the Super Eagles, it appears his efforts back at his club have paid off, and he is not among those considered for the chop in January.
Iheanacho’s fans will be glad to learn that the star’s name does not pop up in reports that that Leicester boss, Claude Puel is ready to oversee a January clear out.
Puel has not played Wales midfielder Andy King or Tunisia defender Yohan Benalouane at all this term, and the pair are available for sale, but nothing is said about Iheanacho in that regard.
Similarly, The Foxes may also listen to offers for Danny Simpson, who has started just twice and is out of contract next summer, and Japan striker Shinji Okazaki, also set to be a free agent in 2019.
Portugal midfielder Adrien Silva, who cost £25m from Sporting Lisbon just a year ago after famously spending months in limbo as a summer deal was done 14 seconds too late, could also go as he has not featured in the top flight since August.
Puel said: “I think we have a squad with a lot of players. We need to reduce the squad because we need to give game-time for some players and keep all the time a good mentality and positive attitude.
“We have our focus and concentration on the team and all the games we have to play in December and January. After we will see if some players leave the club.”
