DCP Emefile takes over from Commissioner of Police (CP) Patrick A. Atayero, MSc, MBA, psc, who had been in the role since March 26, 2020. During his tenure, CP Atayero played a significant role in advancing sports within the NPF, particularly following the successful 12th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) held in Anambra in 2020.

His leadership further cemented the Force’s reputation as a major contributor to Nigerian sports, achieving remarkable milestones over the years.

Bringing extensive experience to his new position, DCP Emefile is a former striker for the Police Machine Football Club and the 1993/1994 recipient of the Bournvita Award for highest goal scorer.

His contributions to sports administration include serving as a Board Member of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (2013–2017), pioneering the Police Scrabble Association as its first Chairperson, and currently leading the Police Athletics Association.

Additionally, he has chaired the Technical Sub-Committee for both the 13th and 14th BIPOGAs and serves as the Force’s Security Consultant on the League Management Committee for the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Congratulating DCP Emefile on his appointment, the IGP encouraged him to build on his predecessor’s achievements and further promote sports development within the Nigeria Police Force
