New arrival at Shanghai Greenland Shenhua of China, Odion Jude Ighalo has promised to give his very best efforts with the club, as he seeks to justify their decision to sign him from relegated Changchun Yatai.
Sports247.ng learnt that Ighalo is equally excited with the privilege he has to play under the same coach that handled him him during his time at Watford of England, which he believes would be a huge opportunity for him to settle down fast in an unfamiliar environment.
After signing the dotted lines in a three-year deal, which will run until the end of the 2021 season at the club that once had fellow-Nigerian striker, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins, Ighalo says he is happy to reunite with Spanish tactician, Quique Sánchez Flores at Shanghai Shenhua.
During his time at Yatai, Ighalo, who has 10 goals in 25 appearances for the Super Eagles, hit home 36 goals in 55 games across two seasons.
Changchun Yatai will be happy to get €15m and two Chinese players from Shenhua in the deal for Ighalo, who started training with his new team on Thursday and will don jersey number nine in the squad.
The soft-spoken striker is also thinking well about his former club, as Ighalo says he will keep wishing them well, but admits he must now start concentrating on doing well at his new base.
Ighalo said: “I thank Changun Yatai for the love, support and everything we shared together in two amazing years.
“I wish the club all the best in what lies ahead. Right now, I want to give my best to Shanghai Shenhua and make important contributions”
