Ahead of preparations for the new Nigerian football season, Lagos based Nationwide league side Iganmu FC, took time off its intense training programmes to visit Chosen Child Orphanage and Care Centre, Sari-Iganmu, Lagos.
The management and players of the high-riding Iganmu FC led by its President Abayomi Egbayelo donated food items like bags of rice, noodles, spices, salt and vegetable oil to the orphanage.
Speaking with journalists at the emotional event, Egbayelo said the visit was one of the several programmes lined up by him to give back to society and also support the needy and less privileged members of his community.
” I’m passionate about the welfare of the needy and disadvantaged members of society. I remember my childhood days while growing up in this Sari-Iganmu community and I’m therefore compelled to return to this community and show love and support to my people,” he stated.
Japan-based Egbayelo, who holds a doctorate degree in Sports Medicine, also disclosed plans by his management to donate five per cent of the total revenue accrued from the ongoing sales of Iganmu FC jerseys and merchandise to the orphanage.
Reaching to visit, the obviously delighted founder of the orphanage, Mrs Ayuba, was effusive in praises and prayers for the management and players of the team.
While thanking the visitors, she described the donations as timely. She went on to admonish other well placed individuals and corporate bodies to emulate such kind gestures and help to make life for the helpless and needy kids in the society, more comfortable.
