Ibadan Football Association (IFA) has changed the resumption date of its League as it battles extreme weather condition.
The Association had said in a Press Statement in December that it would resume soccer activities in first weekend of January 2023. But this is no longer feasible as severe drought hit the pitch in spite of intense wetting by the Association’s Groundsmen.
Barr. Rotimi Alli, who disclosed this in a chat with IFA Media, lamented that the Association was forced to change the resumption date for the League from this weekend till probably next weekend.
He explained further that the dry season had started taking its toll on the pitch despite constant wetting which led the Association to buy water from suppliers to augment the Association’s Borehole.
Alli, also known as Libero, revealed that to compound the challenges faced by the soccer ruling body, one of the over-head water tanks used for wetting the pitch was destroyed when its scaffolding gave way last week.
Libero, however affirmed that these obstacles notwithstanding, the Association would forge ahead to ensure the League resumed in good time.
The IFA Boss, who recalled that running last year’s League was expensive as the Association rented other venues which came at extra cost, however ruled out alternative pitches ” except if it’s unavoidably necessary”.
He urged clubs to strive for excellence as the Association was ready to offer a level playing ground for all.
