Lobi Stars of Makurdi vice-chairman, Mike Idoko has described as a welcome development the CAF Champions League preliminary draw that pits The Middle Best side against UMS de Loum of Cameroon.
Idoko is happy that his side have the first hurdle against a club from Nigeria’s eastern neighbors, as he recounts that any team he is with has never lost to an opponent from Cameroon.
Consequently, sports247.ng can report that Idoko is enthusiastic of a surge for Lobi Stars, as he believes the ‘defacto’ Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions will eliminate UMS de Loum.
Ahead of their first leg battle on November 27 in one of the qualifiers for next year’s CAF Champions League main draw, Idoko said he is confident Lobi Stars will advance to the next round.
Idoko boasted: “I have never lost to a Cameroonian team on the continent since I became an administrator.
“We played against a team from Cameroon while I was in Sunshine Stars and we triumphed.
“We also played against them when I was in Warri Wolves and we also triumphed.
“By God’s grace, we will beat them to advance to the next stage (but) the only way to get a result is to prepare well, which is what we are doing presently.
“The boys are in camp, the spirit is high, they have been in an intensive camp for more than three weeks.
“We need to justify the support the team have received from the Benue State Government by churning out a good performance.
“At the end, we will come out victorious (and) advance to the next stage of the competition.”
