Lobi Stars of Makurdi chief executive and vice-chairman, Mike Idoko has alleged that his side lost 1-0 at home to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the CAF Champions League due to poor officiating, sports247.ng reports.
In the wake of his side’s shock goalless draw with same opponents during the reverse fixture in Morocco, Idoko stressed that it showed that Wydad did not deserve their victory at Nnamdi Azikiewe Stadium, Enugu, where he believes his team did not have a level playing field.
Idoko added that Wydad were lucky to win the first leg, which put Lobi Stars’ progress in doubt, but he interjected that the Middle Belt club’s ability to eke out a draw in the reverse fixture confirmed their mettle.
He is now looking up to a better result in their next game, which will be away to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, who he opined played better than Wydad in Enugu, but says Lobi Stars are poised to pull off another surprise against The Brazilians in Nelson Mandela’s country.
Idoko stated: “The first kleg officiating in Enugu was a bit suspicious, because there was no level playing field for both teams to properly express themselves.
“In the second leg, it was much better, and we showed them what we have with the draw.
“Wydad were just lucky in Enugu. We played a far better side (than them in Mamelodi) Sundowns, and we defeated them in Enugu.”
