Alarm bells are rising in South Africa over ex-Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Idah Peterside, following reports that he could be in for deportation from the country in which he has lived for 20 years.
Only recent Peterside, who is now a pastor and cable television sports analyst in Nelson Mandela’s country, had a baby through his wife, but sports247.ng gathered that he has come under scrutiny by the home office in South Africa.
The ex-Iwuayanwu Nationale of Owerri shot-stopper, who was recently in Nigeria for the presidential election a fortnight ago, confirmed that he is facing questions from SA officials, but hinted it is due to the dirty operations of fake pastors in The Rainbow Nation.
Peterside hinted as much in a post on social media, in which he admitted he has been embarrassed by home affairs officials calling to question his continued stay in their country and tagging him a foreigner.
It is an ironic twist of fate for the player-turned-pastor, as he was also a regular in goal for Temba Classic FC of South Africa from 1999 to 2001 and with Moroka Swallows up till 2002, which he believes should normally accord him star status in the country.
The former Super Eagles media officer, who is now a full fledged pastor at Christ Ambassadors Church based in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, is, however, staying calm over the development.
Peterside tweetted: “Home affairs calling me To question my stay with my wife after 20 years in South Africa because of fake pastors.
“They say am a pastor and Foreigner. what an embarrassment @MarawaSportShow @eNCA @channelstv @MySoccerAfrica @HomeAffairsSA.”
