Super Eagles’ media officer, Toyin Ibitoye has declared that the team will go all out for victory against Seychelles on Friday, because the players want to keep a winning momentum heading into the Africa Cup of Nations, sports247.ng reports.
Although he admitted that Friday’s game at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba is a dead rubber match, as Nigeria have already qualified and Seychelles are out of the race, Ibitoye stressed that neither side will want to lose the encounter.
He pointed out that The Pirates of Seychelles have been training hard ahead of this game, for which they even played a couple of international friendlies, which is to confirm that they want to shock Nigeria in Asaba.
The Eagles’ spokesman added that the players know that their positions in Nigeria’s final squad to AFCON 2019 would be determined with how they perform in upcoming matches, as the preparations begin, which is another reason why he believes they will not take Friday’s match lightly.
Ibitoye stressed: “The players know that pride and prestige is at stake, even if it is a dead rubber match.
“We want to take the winning momentum with us to the Cup of Nations, and we are taking this match as part of our preparations.
“We also want to stay top of the table heading to the Nations Cup, and that can only be possible once we win on Friday.
“We are playing against a team that means business and they want to get an upset as consolation for missing the Nations Cup.
“They have been training very hard, even playing some friendly matches, which is to show that they are taking this match very seriously.”
