All is now set for the commencement of the maiden edition of lbadan Community Football Championship taking place today at Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan by 4pm
The competiton according to the organizer of the first football community Championship, and a member of Oyo State Football Association, Mr John Kayode, popularly known as “John Kay” said the competiton is designed to further consolidate on the existing peace and tranquility amongst the Ibadan dwellers.
Adressing the journslists on Saturday in Ibadan, Coach John Kay said “Ibadan is not only an ancient city but a city of many firsts; we have the First Television Station in Africa, here NTA, the Premier University, University of Ibadan (UI), The first 25 stories building in Africa known as Cocoa House, not only that, the Liberty stadium and host of others”
Speaking further Ibadan remains the political headquarters of the South West that housed the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Bola Ige amongst other nationalists, so having this kind of community football championship is to remind ourselves how we started and where we’re heading as a traditional and ancient city
He added that this would afford us to know the status of our traditional rulers with great rich of history with the inhabitants like obas, chiefs and community leaders in the majour city of Ibadan are always in one accord”. He explained
The opening match is slated for today Sunday 8th September, 2019 at 4pm between :
Abebi Community vs Kube Atenda at 4pm
