In what used to be a very old and traditional fixture in Nigerian football, a matchup that always saw the finest footballers in the country on parade, a game that has now become a shadow of its old self with both teams struggling to remain relevant, it was the Ibadan side, Shooting Stars that ran away with three points and three goals against Stationery Stores FC of Lagos.
“We didn’t intend to lose this game. This was supposed to be a winnable game for us but there’s nothing we can do about it now than to just look forward to our next game and see what we can do,” were the words of a disappointed Stationery Stores striker, Ifeanyi Anthony Ihemekwele told Sports247.
Shooting Stars Sports Club came into the NNL matchday four fixture in Agege Township Stadium in top form after picking up maximum points in the last game against Go Round FC and quickly went two goals ahead in the first half courtesy of a brace from Gafar Olafimihan.
“We were never worried that we were bottom of the table and facing the team at the top. Our mind was set on coming to the pitch to pick up points to reduce the gap. Anybody can be beaten so them being at the top didn’t matter,” Ifeanyi said.
The striker when asked if he would leave if an offer comes in for him after his fine display despite his side losing, said he will definitely pack his bags and move. “If I’m opportune to be invited to the team (like 3SC), what am I doing here? I’ll pack my bags and join them. We all seek opportunities to move higher so if it comes, fine,” Ifeanyi added.
