Maduka Okoye has expressed his desire to reclaim the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper spot ahead of their AFCON qualifiers against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.
Speaking recently, Okoye admitted that while he remains patient, he is keen to earn back his place, acknowledging the impressive performances of Stanley Nwabali, who has held the position since a strong AFCON showing in 2023.
Okoye emphasized that he’s focused on giving his best in training to convince the coaching staff.

“Yeah of course this is what I want, but Stanley (Nwabali) set a high point with a great AFCON, so I’m just patiently waiting, and trying to do my best in training and impress the staff as much as possible,” He said.
He also praised the current depth in the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper pool, noting the high competition among goalkeepers like Nwabali and how it’s a motivating factor for him as he looks to get back into the starting lineup.
Despite his determination, Okoye remains respectful of Nwabali’s performances and is prepared to work hard to regain his place.
