Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins, fondly called “Obagoal,” has opened up about his hopes for his son, Kevin Maussi Martins, to follow in his footsteps and represent Nigeria on the international stage.
Speaking during an event in Marrakech, the former Inter Milan star shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s goal-scoring challenges and the bright future he envisions for his son.
“When I used to play for Nigeria, we had so many strikers who scored goals. We played as a team. You see players like Mikel [Obi] scoring goals, Taiye Taiwo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Julius Aghahowa, and Odemwingie,” Martins said, reflecting on the Super Eagles’ glory days.
Martins, who had a stellar career playing for top clubs in Europe, emphasized his son’s potential and pride in his Nigerian heritage. “Hopefully, my son represents Nigeria. He’s half Nigerian,” he stated passionately.
Kevin Maussi Martins, born in Milan in 2005, has already begun carving out his path in football.
Currently at Monza, the young forward recently made his senior debut in a Coppa Italia clash, showcasing his talent with an assist.
Eligible to represent Nigeria, Italy, or Ghana, the football world is watching to see where his allegiance will lie.
Obagoal’s heartfelt appeal resonates with Nigerian fans who dream of seeing Kevin don the green and white jersey of the Super Eagles. Only time will tell if his son answers the call of his father’s homeland.
