His name may not ring bell among grassroots football coaches in Lagos but Morining Star Football Academy coach, Olatunji Bolarinwa is well known in Alimosho area of the state.
Bolarinwa in a chat with sports247.ng recently explained why he quickly left football at the age of 21 and became a grassroots football coach.
“People always ask me why did I stop playing and become a coach when my mates are still playing active football.Let me clarify it here today.I sustained a serious injury when I was playing for my team in a friendly match.I was injured at my private part and operation was carried out and it was successful.
“When doctor observed that I was a footballer,he advised me to quit the round leather game if I want to live long and I heeded to the advice and I went into football coaching at the early stage of my football career,”he said.
Bolarinwa added that he had groomed players ranging from U-10-13 categories saying that no fewer than 30 players are in his team.
“I have 30 players in my team presently and more players are still coming to join the team before the end of this month.Morinng star academy is doing well.We came third at the recent Adaamasunle Cup and we are also preparing for Baale Oki Challenge Cup.My boys are in good shape and ready to face the battle that come their way,”he said.
Asked how does he find the coaching job, Boluwatife said the coaching job is very interesting and challenging.He confessed not belonging to any football coaches council since he started his coaching career.
“I am not in any council but I am planning to join Agege or Ikeja very soon.Aside this, I wish to further my education by going to NIS for coaching course.If I see somebody that can help me, I am ready to go back to classroom,”he concluded.
