Outgoing Nigeria Wrestling Federation President Daniel Igali has expressed pride in the progress made during his 12-year tenure, declaring that the sport is now in a far stronger position than when he assumed office.
Igali highlighted Nigeria’s rise from struggling to qualify for major events to winning medals at continental and global competitions. He described his administration’s journey as one built on sacrifice, strategic planning, and belief in Nigerian athletes.

Reflecting on his time in office, the Olympic gold medalist said his greatest joy is seeing young wrestlers compete with confidence on the world stage. He also praised coaches and officials for their unwavering dedication to developing the sport across the country.
Igali offered his full support to newly elected president Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, urging him to continue implementing the federation’s existing blueprint and drive further success.
“I’m leaving the sport in capable hands,” Igali said. “The new board must build on the foundation we’ve laid — the future of Nigerian wrestling is bright.”
