Ozude Frances, an SS2 student at Holy Child College, competed for Marcella House in the high jump event during the college’s 80th Anniversary Inter-House Sports competition. Speaking to Sports247 at the event, Frances shared her approach and feelings about her performance.
“As I’m running, I’m looking for where I will stop, like where I will start jumping from,” she explained, describing her focus during the race. “I jumped about eight times with all the effort I put in, but I still came second. I feel I have achieved at the moment since I just started high jumping yesterday.”

In addition to the high jump, Frances participated in the 400m senior race. Reflecting on her house’s overall performance, she noted, “My house came in third. I don’t really feel that accomplished with that result because, as I was running, I wasn’t running well and I sprained my ankle.”
Looking ahead, Frances revealed her personal goals: “I plan to be able to jump up to two meters for high jump.” When asked about her future aspirations, she added, “I want to become a software engineer. But you know, you could be a software engineer and you could still be a good athlete if you put your mind to it.”
Frances’s candid reflections point out the blend of ambition and realism that defines the spirit of young athletes at Holy Child College, where every event is a stepping stone to future success.
