Enyimba coach, Finidi George has revealed his admiration and love for his first assistant coach, Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel admitting that he has always wanted the technical guru by his side even in his first season with the club.
Yemi Daniel who was head coach at the time at Vandrezzer FC resigned after the FA Cup triumph with the Akwa Ibom-based team following the offer from Enyimba to work alongside the ex-Nigeria international and he didn’t think twice, he immediately joined up with the team.
Finidi, a proven winner and legend of the game couldn’t hide his delight when he finally got his man in his second season despite a torrid first season but he was determined to make it right and reward the management’s faith in him with Yemi by his side.
“When Enyimba signed me in my first season, I wanted Yema, but it was difficult, but my idea from the beginning was to bring him in, and knowing how vibrant he is, I wanted us to work together,” Finidi opened up.
“Despite his youthfulness, he has vast experience in the League and knows the players and he is a very good coach.”
Speaking further on eventually getting his right-hand man, “We had spoken at length, but other coaches on the ground didn’t make that possible in the first season. Coming into the second season, I stressed on it, and it eventually happened.”
“I needed someone who we think football alike. Yema‘s knowledge is top-notch. He always challenged me, put me on my toes, and wasn’t scared to be expressive and the work we both did together is visible to see.”
With Yemi and Finidi on the touchline for the second season, Enyimba International won the NPFL title, ninth in the club history, and also a CAF Champions League berth as icing on the cake.
