Napoli star striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of action for at least three months and will miss next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Osimhen underwent a cheekbone operation this morning after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday in a Serie A-game. He was forced to leave the pitch in the second half following the incident and was diagnosed with
multiple facial fractures subsequently.
After a successful operation, Napoli have confirmed that Osimhen will remain out of action for at least 90 days which coincides with the Africa Cup of Nations that begins on January 9, 2022.
This will come as a huge blow to Napoli’s title chances this season, with the Partenopei reliant on Osimhen as a huge source of goals. He is the club’s top scorer so far this season with 9 goals from 14 games.
Osimhen will also be a big loss for Nigeria in next year’s AFCON with the 22-year old a vital cog in the Super Eagles setup.
