Although he has not tasted Nigerian league before a former Depros FC of Ikeja, Emmanuel Ebuka Ijezie got an offer in the second division club of Sweden, FC Trelleborg last year.
Ijezie who started his football career with Depros FC of Lagos years ago carved a niche for himself in the Swedish league. Apart from scoring for his team, the lanky player contributed immensely to the success of the club.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Ijezie said he was honoured and appreciated in FC Trelleborg throughout his stay saying that his performances in all matches gladdened the heart of the club fans.
“My last season with FC Trelleborg was a very exciting and fruitful outing. All the matches I played for the club, I was honored and appreciated by the club fans because they saw me as a player who could help the club. There was a particular match when we played away with FC Balkan, though we lost 2-3 I was played my heart out and I was commended by the club management,” he said.
Ijezie who has played a professional career with Mosta FC in Malta and Sirens FC of Malta revealed that his experiences in these two clubs prepared him to perform excellently well in the Swedish league.
“When I got to Sweden, I quickly adapt to the club philosophy and I was regularly used in the league. As a defensive midfielder, I scored four or five goals out of eight matches I played because I joined the club when the league was already in progress,” he said.
Asked why is still in Nigeria, when the Swedish league had resumed, Ijezie said he came back to Nigeria for personal reason and by the time he was planning to go back, Nigeria had shut the international airport due to pandemic disease.
“Actually my contract with FC Trelleborg was expired last season but I came back to Nigeria for a personal reason before the lockdown started in the country. I do communicate with the club officials and as soon as international flights resume, I would fly out,” said Ijezie who is available for a big club in Europe.
Commenting on Ijezie’s contract, his manager who doubles as chairman of Depros FC, Emeka Godson Ehirim revealed that he is working with some agents both in Africa and Europe to get a new contract for his player.
“I have my football agents who I do communicate with and I am looking many ways where my player can feature during this transfer window,” he concluded.
