Wild jubilation erupted as Logistics Spikers Volleyball Club and a female Volleyball Club Offa grabbed the 2022 Legacy Volleyball Championship title at the National Stadium Indoor Sports Hall, Surulere Lagos.
The 6th edition of the tournament was organised by the Chairman, Legacy Volleyball Club, Kayode Ladele and in support of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), for the accelerated development of the sport in Lagos and the country as a whole.
It was an interesting encounter between the finalists Logistics and Legacy before the wild spectators. Logistics lost their first set before they snatched the hosts team Legacy 3-1 to win the gold.
Offa Ladies were the champions in the female category as they maintained their winning streak from the group phase, knocking out Legacy 3-0 in the semi-finals before their 3-1(25-23,22-25-,25-20,25-18) final triumphed against Elite.
Legacy and Elites went home with 500,000 naira each after finishing as first-runners up in the male and female events.
While commenting on the Championship, the Director General Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, said the beauty of volleyball has been witnessed and what the players demonstrated has shown that the game is improving beyond doubt.
“Lagos State Sports Commission would continue to support the development of the game, so that Nigerian players can move forward to represent the African continent in the world of volleyball”.
Gafaar highlighted that with the heroic performances of the participating teams especially the winners; Lagos would not rest on its oars when it comes to the Development of sports.
Chairman Legacy Volleyball Club, Kayode Ladele submitted that the essence of the competition is to raise players and teams that will be able to compete favourably in the world.
Volleyball World Cup is going-on and Nigeria is not represented, adding that, what will make Nigeria to be part of it is to organise Championships like this,that will raise formidable athletes to compete with other athletes in the world.
