Former Chelsea FC midfielder, Mikel Obi has shared how he resisted taking Performance Enhancing Drugs during his Chelsea’s days, Sports247 reports.
The Nigerian football legend made a stern revelation of how he was offered drugs to help his performance during his playing days but he resisted the pressure and rejected any form of performance enhancer.
Mikel made this known on his Obi One Podcast, when he was reacting to the allegations of banned drugs used by current player FC, Mykhailo Mudryk.
News broke out during the week that the Ukrainian has tested positive for a banned substance and if found guilty he could stay in the sideline for a lengthy period which may signal the end of his career.
Mikel said : ” For him and his family, I hope he is innocent because he is innocent until proven guilty “.
The Nigerian forward proceeded by sharing his experience with drug peddlers and how he managed to wade and resisted the pressure.
” I remember when we were playing, if someone is offering me something, I will ask you what it is.”
“I’m responsible for what I put in my body, what I eat, and stuff like that. People around will offer you stuff-friends, friends of friends-they will tell you that this will give you this or it will give you one or two more percent in your performances, and I’m like what is this? Is this legal?
“I tell them to go away, I don’t want to talk about it. We have to take responsibility for our actions and what we eat. ”
Mikel Obi played for Chelsea for 11 years and won numerous trophies with no blemishes both on and off the pitch during his playing days.
