Super Eagles sensation Samuel Chukwueze’s Europa League dream was truncated on Thursday after he was introduced in the 46th minute and Villarreal suffered a 2-0 loss in the hands of Valencia at the Estadio de Mestalla in Spain.
Villarreal lost the first meeting 3-0 at home last week and were hoping to turn the table against their hosts in the second fixture to remain in the Europa league competition.
Chukwueze was unable to prevent his side from bowing out of the European second elite competition as Toni Lato netted his first senior goal to give the hosts the lead on 13 minutes.
Valencia Captain Dani Parejo scored via a free-kick eight minutes after the restart to give the hosts a 5-1 aggregate win and dump Villareal out of the tournament.
Valencia will face Alex Iwobi’s Arsenal in the semifinals of the competition.
Villarreal will now turn their attentions to the Spanish La Liga and continue their battle against relegation.
