How Careless Moments Cost Shooting Stars Defeat Against Akwa United

Shooting Stars coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has lamented the numerous careless moments that led to their 2-0 defeat against Akwa United on Sunday in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 29, Sports247 reports.

The encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo saw Shooting Stars concede two second-half goals, courtesy of Edebebiri Endurance and Uche Sebastian, in the 61st and 68th minutes, respectively.

Speaking after the match, Shooting Stars’ head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, expressed his disappointment:

“It’s unfortunate we’re facing this defeat at this time. We did everything humanly possible, but sometimes we have careless moments that result in this.”

“This doesn’t reflect the true picture of the game, but we lost. All we need to do is go back, analyze where we got it wrong, and get back to winning ways.”

“If you want to judge based on good play, you’ll give it to us, but football isn’t won with beauty alone. It’s about scoring goals.”

” Beauty in the game alone isn’t success. Unfortunately, in the second half, we had a lot of careless moments.” Ogunbote stated.

The result significantly hampers Shooting Stars’ ambition of finishing among the top three, while Akwa United’s bid to escape relegation receives a major boost with nine matches remaining.

With this result Shooting Stars are now 6th on the log with 43 points after 29 matches with just +2 goals difference while Akwa United moved to 18th position with 31 points after 29 matches, reducing their goal deficit from -8 to -6.
