Hoopers Doubtful For March 1st FIBA Africa Date

Rivers Hoopers of Port Harcourt have left in doubt their availability for next weekend’s FIBA Africa Basketball League fixture against AS Sale in Morocco, as the Garden City outfit is contemplating a withdrawal.

Sports247.ng gathered that, although Hoopers are meant to be ‘host’ in the first game of the inaugural competition, uncertainty is surrounding the March 1 fixture, as the club are said to be facing financial issues.

While a section of the sporting media says The Hoopers have already withdrawn from the elite competition, the club’s general manager, Ifie Ozaka said they are considering sending a letter to FIBA Africa.

Ozaka said the letter would be to formally inform the continental body of Rivers Hoopers’ intention to pull out of the competition, as they lack funding to travel to Morocco to honour their fixtures.

Ozaka then urged Rivers State governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike to rally in support of the club and help put an end to their plight.
He admitted that a potential withdrawal from the continental league would lead to a fine and ban from future FIBA Africa Club competitions.
