Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to clinch the 2025 African Nations Cup (AFCON) title.
Speaking during an interview on NTA AM Sports on Tuesday, Hon. Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, based his optimism on the quality of Nigerian players and their stellar performances in European leagues.

Reacting to the 2025 AFCON group-stage draw held in Morocco on Monday, Hon. Amadu urged the Super Eagles to maintain focus and avoid overconfidence despite being placed in what appears to be a relatively straightforward Group C with Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
“Yes, the group looks simple, but the players need to be careful not to approach matches with a mindset that victory is guaranteed even before kicking the ball,” he cautioned. “Overconfidence and underestimating opponents are some of the most dangerous things in football, especially in a competition like the AFCON.”
Hon. Amadu emphasized the importance of team spirit and determination: “No doubt we have the talents, but the team must be ready to play like wounded lions to qualify from the group and advance to the final. If they can play as a team, mentally and physically prepared, the trophy is ours, Insha Allah.”
The lawmaker also called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure adequate preparations for the tournament, stressing that proper planning could pave the way for victory.
Reflecting on the Super Eagles’ performance in the last AFCON final, where they narrowly lost to the hosts, and Nigeria’s recent back-to-back wins of the African Player of the Year award, Hon. Amadu expressed confidence that Nigeria has the pedigree to succeed in Morocco.
The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania in their opening Group C match.
