‘Home Based Eagles I Saw In Los Angeles Are Not Bad’, Says Ushurhe

A Nigerian -US-born-based football Coach Anthony Ushurhe has commended the home-based Super-Eagles despite their 0-4 defeat against Mexico in a recent international friendly match played in Los Angeles, USA.

Ushurhe who was among the Nigerians who watched the match in Los Angeles told our correspondent that the home-based Super-Eagles put up a good performance but noted that lacked experience and exposure responsible for the team’s defeat.

“Honestly I want to salute our local players for giving an account of themselves against Mexico. When we look the result of the game, Nigerian football fans may not be happy but the performance of these local players really impressed me. Most of these players are playing outside the continent for the first time and they were able to play good football,”he said.

The former coach of Messiah FC revealed that Nigeria home-based eagles lost to Mexico because there was no proper teamwork and lacked exposure which cost them to concede an early goal to give their opponents an advantage to win the game.

Asked if some players should be changed in the next game, the Delta-born coach said there is no need to change the players noted that only the players who played below average should be replaced.
“For me, all the players I saw on the field played well except if one or two players fail to meet up coach expectations,” he said.

He however advised the players to see the national assignment as an opportunity for them to give their best.
He said the players should try as much as possible to play as a team instead of individual games. He said if the players continue to play the individual game, the positive result may not come.

“This defeat is a wake-up call and our next match should be better than this. I was hearing that NFF has lined up friendly matches against Ghana, Canada, and New Zealand and I think it is a welcome development,” he concluded
