Third assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Usman Abdallah has stated that the unfortunate result that came from the tie between the home-based Super Eagles and the Black Galaxies of Ghana is a result of what we can call the away syndrome seen in the Nigerian leagues today.
The home-based Eagles lost 4-5 on penalties to the Ghanaians after drawing level in the second leg from a two-goal deficit in Ghana. The Super Eagles assistant coach has talked about how teams don’t lose home games and never win away games no matter how good or bad a team is. An average Nigerian team focuses more on home games, doing everything possible to win home games and not minding any result that will come out of the away games.
Abdallah said the CHAN Eagles have a mentality of losing away already. “This away syndrome. When we go away, we are going to lose. You see a mentality of losing away. Even in the Nigerian league, nobody wins away. No matter how bad your team is, you win at home. In the Nigerian league, it’s difficult to win away but this is an international match. You can’t expect it to be in that way.
“Everything came with the league here”. According to the tactician, since all the players are from the Nigeria league, that alone explains why they had to lose by two goals to nil in Ghana and came back to upturn the result by every means possible and managed to get the game to penalties which they finally lost here in Nigeria.
