Hockey Federation of Nigeria (HFN) secretary-general, Rita Mordi has bemoaned the poor state of funding of the flickers’ sport in the country, and believes lack of financial support has always been an obstacle in their search for success.
Mordi said in an interview with sports247.ng that various sources of sponsorship and financial backing have not extended towards the sport in the country, hence their inability to create giant strides.
The hockey scribe noted further in a chat with sports247.ng that lack of money has also been the federation’s bane in their desire to create an enduring developmental programme.
Mordi said: “We know that more attention must be paid to youth development and promotion of hockey events from the grassroots, but lack of money is always our problem.
“We need a system in p[lace whereby we can fund youth programmes, in order to reposition the sport, thereby making it viable for investors to come into.”
