Southampton’s Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, has returned to training in preparation for the club’s upcoming pre-season games. On the other hand, Joe Aribo was absent from training, leading to speculation about his potential departure from the club. Both Nigerian internationals joined Southampton last season but struggled to make a significant impact.

Aribo managed only 2 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, while Onuachu failed to score in his 11 appearances, having joined the club in January.

Aribo’s future at the club has been the subject of numerous rumors, particularly linking him with a move to Turkish powerhouse Besiktas. The 26-year-old midfielder has struggled to settle at Southampton, failing to showcase his best form under three different managers last season.

Adding fuel to the speculation surrounding Aribo’s potential departure, he was absent from the club’s first training session following the holidays.

Meanwhile, Paul Onuachu was present, indicating that he may be given another opportunity to prove himself at the club. Onuachu, 29, was the top scorer in the Belgian League with Genk before his move to Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year contract. However, he made only 11 appearances in his debut season in England for a club that was embroiled in a relegation battle upon his arrival.

Notably, Coach Jose Peseiro did not include Onuachu in the squad that secured qualification for the next African Cup of Nations with a victory over Sierra Leone, while Aribo played for 70 minutes in that game
