The international conference organised for development of handball in Nigeria organised by the Handball Federation of Nigeria in celebration of the International Handball Week came to a glorious end on Sunday with a wonderful presentation by the President of the Egypt Handball Federation Dr. Hesham Nasr.
The week long webinar had participants and several stakeholders joining in to listen to handball technocrats, such as Dr Lanre Glover, former president of HFN and former vice President of the Confederation of Africa Handball (CAHB) and Mr. Pedro Godinho, president of the Angola Handball Federation and second vice President of CAHB, speak about how handball can be a podium sport in Nigeria and get back the glory days in the continent.
Speaking on “How to develop the game of Handball in a country and making it a podium sport: The Egypt Experience”, Dr. Nasr emphasised the need for deliberate refreshal training for coaches, a productive and active league, regular training camps for youth teams and even the national teams.
He also said there is need to set exceptional technical rules and motivation for youth players with aim of addressing and developing technical deficiencies in areas.

Dr. Nasr also insist that to reach international level, there must be regular competitions locally for the players and it must be deliberate.
He also revealed that the Egypt Handball Federation is willing to partner with HFN to help Nigeria grow in handball as Egypt who is a powerhouse of handball in Africa.
President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria Mr. Sam Ocheho, while thanking Dr. Nasr, promised that the board will implement some of the ideas from the presentation and are willing to work with Egypt Handball Federation to help handball grow in Nigeria.
He said the present HFN board have set up plans already to ensure that handball in Nigeria get back to the glory days and even surpass the feat.
While bringing webinar to a close, he urged the Nigeria Handball family to join hands together with HFN to ensure that handball grows in Nigeria.
The International Handball Week was introduced at the 2019 Ordinary Congress of the International Handball Federation (IHF) to celebrate the world handball governing body’s founding date which is July 12th.
