The President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria Mr Sam Ocheho has appreciated the Minister of Sports And Youth Development Mr Sunday Dare for his recent support to the federation.
The Minister was on the ground to see the final of the National Sports Festival Handball Event wherein Kano defeated Lagos by 24-19 in the male category final.
Afterwards, Mr Sunday Dare praised the Handball Federation of Nigeria led by Sam Ocheho for being one of the progressive and successful federations and leveraging on private sponsorship of the league which has produced talented chaps in the grassroots.
He also promised that the ministry will work with Sam Ocheho led the board of HFN on developmental programmes which will help in the discovery of more talents that will run through not just in secondary schools but higher institutions as well.
“Handball Federation is one of the most successful federations and the President (Sam Ocheho) is very innovative as he has been able to leverage on private sponsorship for the league which will is critical for every single Federation as it’s important to partner with the private sector”
“We will work with him in ensuring that there is a programme that will run through the secondary school to the universities and we will ensure it’s promoted through the National Sports Festival and the National Youth Games”. The minister said.
Mr Sam Ocheho, in his response to the minister, thanked him for his unflinching support for the HFN.
He called for more support for the developmental programmes of the HFN such as the just-concluded National Under 18/21 Handball Championship which ended in Lagos recently and the National Under 12/15 Handball Championship which will hold soon in Sokoto.
