Lazio’s head coach, Marco Baroni, has publicly called on Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Ayodele-Bashiru to elevate his game as the young talent continues his loan spell at the Italian club.
With the Serie A season in full swing, Baroni emphasized the critical importance of this developmental phase for Dele-Bashiru, urging him to harness his potential and make a more substantial impact on the field.

Baroni’s expectations for the 22-year-old midfielder were made clear during a recent interview, where he highlighted both the promise and the areas of improvement for Dele-Bashiru.
“Dele-Bashiru has great potential. He is a lad who must understand our football, and to do so, he must train and play. We will give him the opportunity to do so. We also have other good midfielders who are improving.
The attitude was important. He has to improve his posture; he is often closed by the opposition, which doesn’t give him the chance to drive forward. But when he opens his shoulder, he is devastating.
He has to become a ball-winner, but it’s not easy. It’s a complete upheaval, but he made an extraordinary contribution,” Baroni said in quotes revealed by Lazio News 24.
Dele-Bashiru’s journey to Lazio has been marked by determination and gradual progress. After leaving Sheffield Wednesday last year, where he made just twelve starts in EFL League One, he transferred to Hatayspor in Turkey. His performances there caught the attention of Lazio, leading to his current loan stint.
As the season progresses, Dele-Bashiru will be under intense scrutiny, with both fans and coaches eager to see if he can rise to the challenge and secure a permanent place in the squad. Baroni’s remarks underscore the high expectations placed on him and the vital role hard work and dedication will play in his quest for success at Lazio.
