Ikorodu City of Lagos left-wing-back, Harrison Uzondu is fantasising about seeing an ‘early end’ to the ongoing season of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), so that his team would be among the qualifiers for next year’s continental campaigns.
Although there are still four stages of games to go for each team in the Nigerian top division, following last weekend’s matchday 15 games, Uzondu told sports247.ng that seeing his team soar to third position on Sunday was like he was living in a dream.
He, however, added that sheer determination, total focus from all members of the team and a strong desire to pick all points at home led to their 4-1 whipping of Akwa United of Uyo.
Uzondu cheerfully revealed, “We know we are in a good stance at the moment, and that put us in a good position to win this game.
“We were also thinking of not dropping any point at home. So, we needed to be very, very cautious; and not to lose our head.
“We knew we would win, but, for the scoreline, we did not have anything in mind.”
He then turned his attention to the implications of Sunday’s historic victory at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, and pointed out that it gives his team better confidence heading into their remaining matches of the season.
“It means a lot, because it makes us comfortable on the table for now. It also gives us the comfort of knowing we are improving on our position.
“It’s like a dream come true, because we were not expecting this third place position where we are now.
“Initially, we needed to play well and make sure we stay out of relegation, but now we are looking at the title.
“If the season ends now, with us finding ourselves in third position, as we are at the moment, I would be over happy,” Uzondu disclosed.
