G12 Fc defeated Soccer Cardinals Fc at the Agege Stadium 2-0 on Sunday in the finals of the Champions Cup tournament to emerge Champions of the competition.
In an extensive interview with Sports247, the Coach of G12 Fc, Christian Isiekwene took some time out, after his team’s victorious ending in the tournament, to commend the efforts of his players, citing factors that helped them emerge Champions of the tournament, as well as stating the next project for his team, after the Champions Cup.
*What is the strategy of your team winning the tournament?
Hardwork, determination, and concentration.
*Not allowing your opponent’s possession of the ball, is that part of your strategy?
Yes, it’s among my tactical play, because if you are with the ball, you will play, but if you are without the ball, you will just be running, you will get tired. That is why I always want them to be with the ball always, if we lose the ball, we will always want to win the ball back, it’s part of my strategy.
*Getting into this tournament, do you see yourself at that level (Reaching the final and winning the competition)?
Yes
*Would you say the competition lived up to expectation based on your team’s performance?
I am someone that is not always satisfied, apart from the fact that we won the tournament, I am still not satisfied, because I am always someone that is always hungry for success.
*Winning the trophy is a big achievement for your team, what is the next plan?
The next plan is for us to go on a one week break because we will come back on January 4th to prepare for Surulere League, that’s our next plan.
*Your team winning the trophy, your player winning the MVP and your Goalkeeper winning the Golden Glove, how does it make you feel?
It’s a great achievement, I am very very happy.
*Tell us about the MVP?
Erics Isaac is a cool guy, he always wants to win and always wants to score.
*Knowing fully well that this program is a scouting event, are you ready to miss your player?
Yea, that is why we are training them, for them to move to the next level. Apart from these ones, we still have a lot of players, If 5 or 6 players go, the remaining ones can play, they will have more opportunities, so that’s all we are praying for, he concluded.
G12Fc will aim to build on the momentum of winning the 2020 Champions Cup tournament when they compete next year in the Surulere League.
